Traditional Chinese medicine

What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Traditional Chinese medicine, 5000 years old, remains an eminently modern medicine. This discipline, which allows us to refocus on ourselves and to listen to our body, aims first of all to maintain the vital energy inside the body as well as the Essence of the Exterior Elements.

Each individual has a particular constitution where the different elements interact, according to a balance that is specific to them. Traditional Chinese medicine is based on the idea that disease is due to an imbalance in the flow of vital force (Qi, pronounced ¨Chi¨) through the whole body.

How does it work?

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is based on balance, harmony and energy. There are two central ideas behind TCM:

  • Qi (pronounced ¨Tchi¨): also called energy or vital force, Qi circulates throughout the body and is constantly changing. TCM treatments focus on ways to promote and maintain the flow of Qi.
  • Yin and Yang: these are opposites which describe the qualities of Qi. For example, Yin is associated with night, coldness and femininity, while Yang is more associated with daytime, heat and masculinity.
Use of Traditional Chinese Medicine:

To ensure the well-being of our patients, traditional Chinese medicine relies, among other things, on acupuncture and Chinese medicinal herbs (phytotherapy). Other practices are Tui Na massage and exercises such as Qi Gong and Tai chi.
